On 13 February 2026, the Presidential Executive Order to Safeguard Federation Oil and Gas Revenues and Provide Regulatory Clarity, 2026 (Executive Order No. 9, 2026) was published in the Official Gazette.

The Order seeks to restore a direct remittance model for petroleum receipts due to the Federation Account and to clarify regulatory coordination between the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), particularly for integrated operations.
